Young Steers 1st XI to Win @ Paultons

Hythe & Dibden 1st XI pulled off their 2nd league win of the mini campaign with an enthralling 4 run win @ Whitemoor Lane.

Hythe batted first and found the opening stages tricky. Tom Gates fell for 11 but a excellent partnership between Matt Young & Zac Millar added 148 for the 2nd wkt. It wasnt without controversy as Paultons were adamant that Youngie was caught behind in the early stages but the umpires didnt give it and rightly Youngie failed to walk.

Roberts fell for 4 before skipper Tom Richards helped Young to a 20 partnership at the end. Hythe 191-3 at the close with Matt Young 91*.

Hythe needed a good start with the ball and Richards surprisingly handed it to Alex Nicholas who proceeded to bowl all sorts including many wides. However he did pick up 2 important wickets and when Dan Taylor got Wateridge Paultons were stumbling at 28-3.

Former Langley Manor player Ben Rogers & skipper Josh Metcalfe then added 85 for the 4th wicket before Rogers was bowled by Gates 26. 13 year old Ben Holbrook then dismissed Metcalfe 47 & Pike without scoring ~ Paultons 125-6.

Feltham & Ennew then added 26 for the 7th wicket and when Richman & Feltham then added 21 for the 8th Paultons looked slight favourites at 174-8.

The score moved onto 187 when Chalky White bowled Feltham for 43. Next ball he had Denney caught by Matt Young and Hythe had won by 4 runs.

Three wickets a piece for White & Holbrook but the pick of the bowling Gates 8 overs 1-18.

RESULT :  Hythe & Dibden Beat Paultons by 4 Runs
