The proposed facility will consist of two enclosed practice lanes measuring 34m x 9m, with an all‑weather playing surface and protective safety fencing, designed in line with the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) standards. The design and layout have been carefully planned to fit sensitively within the existing grounds and minimise any impact on nearby residents or other park users.
Our FAQ will hopefully answer any questions you may have
Q. Why could the nets not be located nearer the cricket club?
After consultation with the Parish council, ECB and our net supplier, it was concluded that the proposed location was the only viable option at Ewart Rec. As a club, we would have preferred the nets to be nearer the club house but this wasn't feasible and we were conscious not to restrict / impact the youth club on the outside space they utilise frequently
Q. Will Floodlights be installed?
No, we have no plans to install floodlights on the site now or in the future.
Q. Will there be any negative impact to the local wildlife?
As a responsible community club and proud user of Ewart Rec our proposal aims to minimise any impact to local wildlife. We are not removing any trees or disturbing any hedgerows. We shall be installing the recommended safety padding to ensure no ground animals are caught in the netting.
Q. Will the nets be used 12 hours a day
No, we did not want any planning restrictions to not enable the nets to be used during the day in the future if we were able to allow some local schools to benefit from this development. The reality is that we shall be using the nets during the same times we have always trained, for a few hours after work, before dark in the summer months.
Q. Will you be cutting down any trees?
We have no plans to cut down any trees as part of this development?
Q. Who will maintain the nets?
The nets will be owned and maintained by Hythe and Dibden Cricket club
